...The Radeon9600se is performing great in 2D applications! But, when it comes to 3D, and especially OpenGL everything is so slow, so the games isn't playable! :-(
I have now downloaded the fglrx installer from: http://xoomer.virgilio.it/flavio.stanchina/debian/ let's hope I will get better 3D performance! At the homepage, he added that the packages were suited for Xfree86 4.2, and I'm running 4.3. So it might even get worse.
I am fairly happy with ATI drivers (from ati.com), they only have rpm but they have instructions for debian (how to convert rpm to deb)
problem: only one X server can be running (oterwise machine freezes), this might not be a big deal for a desktop
problem: you need mesa installed (other openGL packages depend on it) but it conflicts with ATI package, so you have to force ati package and, of course, have problems when mesa package is updated
