You really don't want the kind that will crush the cable. Plastic clips
are fine (with the nail on one side). Or I've used the plain staples
(generally used for wire fencing, around here, anyway) under the house,
with a cable-tie to hold the cable.

Running over the cable in a wheelchair is clearly a bad idea, too :-)
