Nitpick: mc doesn't need to Depends: or Recommends: gzip because gzip is 
Essential: yes (see Policy 3.5).

For packages that are not Essential: yes an explicit Depends:, 
Recommends: or Suggests: would have to be added, regardless of the other 
package's priority.
