YES! Sorry for that, couldn't help it... So I managed to get dpkg back on track. I tried to load the fifth debian cd so as to get access to fsck without having my root partition mounted. Thing is that there is only e2fsck available so I couldn't. Then I realized (and I'm pretty ashamed of it! :) that /dev/hda1 was the boot partition and that it was /dev/hda5 which was problematic... After that "brilliant" discovery :), I remembered that I had the suse's 8.1 CDs here and that it supported ReiserFS (actually it was the one proposed by default). So I booted with them, typed reiserfsck --rebuil-tree /dev/hda5 and voila. I still got the errors from dpkg but it didn't stop, it continued the installation process so I reinstalled all problematic packages and now everything is back to normal!!!
But I wonder now, may there be some problems "left behind", non-apparent for the moment that could surface latter on ? Is it recommended that I start all over again so as to make sure ?
