Hi there! Just yesterday I've finished installing Debian linux (Sarge). I decided to install flash plugin for mozilla, apt-get it (dependency made me download ruby and libruby). The libruby installation failed since my system hanged up (!!!!), no way to kill X, no way to get access to console, anything... I restarted my computer and when I got back in, I couldn't do ANYTHING with dpkg. Ruby installation is broken, I cannot reinstall, remove it, anything! I'm getting an error saying "dpkg: serious warning: files list file for package `glibc-doc' missing, assuming package has no files currently installed." glibc-doc is not the only one! Here's the list: vacation debconf libart-2.0-2 sudo debianutils libdbl-compat gdm libxml12 libgnomeprint-data gettext-base libhtml-format-perl libsdl1.2debian libuuid1 korn libgal23 autotools-dev ucf perl-modules ipmasqadm dpkg-dev bzip2 openssl base-config bc kate xfree86-common fileutils libwraster2 libgiftproto0 kcron tar atlas2-3dnow html2text pppconfig ksirc libtext-iconv-perl Well it seems that my system is somehow messed up!
I tried to reinstall these packages, to force the reinstall, to remove them, force removing, to apt-get update, etc. Well actually anything I can think of and NOTHING works for the above reason. Can someone help me here ? Is there a way to get at least the file list for these packages so as to put them in /var/lib/dpkg/info and get over with it ? Apparently I won't be able to do anything that is related to deb packages so I must (I think) find something that I will do "by hand"... Can you please help me ? It would seem to me UNBELIEVABLE that I make a full reinstall just because I wanted to have flash plugin installed! :) Anyway, any advice is welcomed...
