Hi, i forgot to point to http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Isohybrid for an overview of this SYSLINUX feature.
You do not need the mentioned post processing programs if xorriso already added an isohybrid MBR to the ISO. But you may beef up your genisoimage ISO if you use the same SYSLINUX version as debian-cd does.
