There is also an "rfkill" package in Debian. It might help. Don't know. Try this. Does it show any access points? # iwlist wlan0 scan Are you aware of the ThinkWiki site? It is a good reference for all things related to ThinkPads. There may be some hints on your problem there. http://www.thinkwiki.org/ If you don't get any resolution here on debian-user you might try posting your question to debian-laptop.
