Then you can use "grep" to filter things... as your WD My Book hard disk 
seems to be identified as "sdc" you could run:

grep -i sdc /var/log/syslog*

That's usually bad, these kind of devices tend to be problematic because 
motherboard USB ports do not always provide the required voltage to 
properly power attached devices :-(

NTFS also? Then run an complete scan disk and defrag from a windows

Is that the UUID for your My Book or My Passport? I bet for the latter but 
I prefer you to confirm this point.

Anyway, I would (in this order):

1/ Run "scan disk" and "defrag" routines from a windows machine
2/ Manually mount the drive from Debian and chek for the output
