I suppose, it is just writining a new partition table without changing data and formation. So do NOT formate under any circumstances.
As I wrote, I got success without loosing any data by jusdt rewriting a new partition table. If this is working in your case, I cannot grant. But maybe other people got some better ideas. Have fun!
