ok so I just found the /boot/config-2.2.20-compaq.

Itīs much easier to get a recent kernel (like 2.4.21), configure, compile and install it to set up a firewall. The options needed for that can be specified when setting up the new kernel (with make menuconfig).

Thereīs a very nice tutorial describing how things work, which kernel options you need, including samples that make a very good point to begin with. The tutorial is called īIptables Tutorial 1.1.16ī (maybe a newer version is available) and was written by Oskar Andreasson --- I canīt find out where I got it from at the moment, but searching for it with google you should be able to find it. Give me a note if you canīt find it; I could mail it to you.

Using ipchains isnīt recommended ...
