While in d-i you can always switch to the "loging console" with ALT+F4. There it should be more verbose about what´s going on.
Thanks for helping a newbie like myself. While doing a little research i found the following website. http://www.debianhelp.org/node/3648 So it seems that the package is asking for input that's why this hanging problem. I'm not an expert. this is just a thought(please forgive my ignorance). is it possible to install debian EtchRC1 without using the dhcp assigned ip address? I mean is it possible to give the input that the package asked through the console(by pressing alt+F4)?
