Assuming you have a network connection, then it doesn't matter what version of 
Debian is installed, it almost completely automatic to upgrade.

Debian has this module. (At least I have it on both a sarge and a sid system)

You may even want to buy your own bits and put together a system.  With a bit 
of reading its quite easy and a bit of fun and you can save money.  Of course 
most modern motherboards have audio built in.
