I wasn't using discover. Having installed it, I now have a couple of USB-related modules loading at boot time, but no change as far as the ethernet is concerned... dmesg doesn't say *anything* about an eth1 anywhere... modprobe via-rhine still dies w/ the same error message as before. If I just go ahead and add an eth1 section manually in /etc/network/interfaces and try ifup eth1, it (not surprisingly) dies, saying "eth1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device" lspci -v says this about my new card: 00:10.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc.: Unknown device 3106 (rev 86) Subsystem: D-Link System Inc: Unknown device 1403 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 11 I/O ports at d800 [size=256] Memory at d9010000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256] Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled] [size=64K] Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2 So...
