I use iGal <http://www.stanford.edu/~epop/igal/> Do an apt-cache search for it. It's in unstable, can't speak for stable or testing. It makes static image galleries and gives you the ability to customize certain aspects (i.e. showing image size, giving images captions, creating templates etc.) The man page is very informative also.
