This is how I get a "desktop system" Install Debian, set up everything including a new kernel.
Then: apt-get install x-window-system x-window-system-core fluxbox xf86config cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config-4-old cp /etc/X11/XF86Config /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 startx regards, T.
