who, or what is the sphere? you got ripped off (how much did you pay for the
cd's?) and the sphere deserves a spanking for using debian to do it. while it
sucks that you lost a bunch of time to end up nowhere, try doing the job in
the manner most people have recommended in response--get hold of potato, and
then upgrade from there, using apt, dpkg, dselect, or etc., to woody or sid.
make sure you first upgrade whichever of those tools you decide to use.

don't pack it in yet. it's worth the effort. keep in mind that it's a real
lively linux distro. you end up with something that you're going to be moved
to play with and improve. but don't give up. sh*t, there'd be nobody here, if
giving up was the way to go.

as far as those cd's are concerned, mail them back to wherever you got them
with a demand for a refund--and tell us who it was so that someone can maybe
leave a burning bag of poop on their web site, in the event of you not
getting satisfaction. are you sure they claimed it was an official woody
release?
