I had the same problem yesterday and I solved just adding this line
in my lilo.conf

image=/vmlinuz
        label=debian
        read-only
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.9-k6   # <----------- this line
        root=/dev/hda2


next #lilo
and reboot....
