This is the line I added to sources.list: "deb http://download.kde.org/stable/3.1/Debian stable main"
after that U ran apt-get update and then apt-get install kdm. Before that I was using KDE 2.2, after it become KDE 3.1. I hope this can help you somehow.

i have somehow managed to put the right entry in sources.list now
and ran an apt-get update.Now, when I give a apt-get install kde it gives me an error
mentioning at least a hundred dependencies !! which packages do
install to install and run kde ...
