you need to hav xfs running...
or comment out "unix/:-1" from your /etc/X11/XF86Ccnfig file
and add some explicitly defined FontPaths
...
# make sure you have the directories you list
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi"
...
