I use the same mother board you do. All the hardware on the board I've tried to use works (which means I have no idea about the smart card reader). The built in ethernet is supported with the via-rhine module, the sound is supported via cmpci. The serial and parallel ports work out of the box. I disabled acpi, and apm does the job of powering on/off correctly and the BIOS will automatically restart after a powerfailure correctly. lm_sensors took a little work, but the sensors now work fine. I used a USB keyboard and mouse so that works too (hotplug with the usb-uhci driver). I'm running 2.4.18-k7 and a stock Woody r1 system.
