I got my first Debian system up and running. Now for the tasking of
configuring it for my needs.
I've managed to get KDE 2.1.1 up and running already!!! I never could
get RedHat to upgrade worth a hoot. With Debian's install model, I know
I'll be able to upgrade for quite some time to whatever I want. Thank
you open sourcers.
Now when I upgraded to KDE 2.1.1 it overwrote some of my ppp
configuration stuff somewhere in the process. I probably said, Y when I
should have said N somewhere. wvdial dials and connects. I can ping
numerical IP addresses, but I can't ping named addresses. I found the
DNS info I had given it earlier as provided by my ISP in the /etc
directory, but the static gateway info was missing. It seems it should
be in the /etc/gateways file, but I can't figure out the syntax. I know
the IP address, I know it's a static gateway and I know the name of the
site, but I don't know how to fill out the gateways file. Is there some
automated tool I could run? Under RedHat I just used kppp and it worked
fine. Can't download kppp now that my connection is broken.
Also, what's the best options for reading email under X and browsing. I
was figuring on trying kmail and konqueror at first. I hear bad remarks
about Netscape and Mozilla all the time. What else is there?
