The probable cause of your problem is that you have 100 dpi fonts ahead of the 75 dpi fonts in your fontpath. If you are using xfs, you should change the catalogue line in /etc/X11/fs/config. If not, then you need to rearrange the FontPath lines in your /etc/X11/XF86Config{-4,}. (Just in case you don't understand the last path, it means either XF86Config-4 or XF86Config. Which depends on whether or not you have X4 installed or not.)
