Feeling handy with the soldering iron? :) If you have a clock battery that is soldered down you will have to find a local tech shop to replace it. This must be an old motherboard? Only thing I've seen in a long while is nicad types that are 'pinched' in. This may not be your problem but that was the first thing that popped into my head when you described your situation. I had an old 386 once upon a time that did the same thing and a new battery solved it. Luck to you.
