I just built an awesome duron system for <$500.  I gave it to my mom
:-)

I'm a big AMD fan; the stuff works and is _always_ cheaper than Intel.
Avoid the super-cheap crap mobos; they will give you trouble with
linux (this is true irrespective of whether it is an AMD or Intel
mobo).
