I'm relatively new to the unix world, so please forgive me if this is a stupid question. I keep getting messages that mail is being placed in the /var/spool/smail/error directory. When I look at the /var/log/smail/logfile, the errors say "Failed TO:<root> ERROR:(ERR100) unknown user". Root definitely exists, so why am I getting this error? smail was set up by dselect upon installation, I haven't touched it.
