OK, up and running. 800x600 works, 640x480 is completely messed up (tiled screen). I simply removed that resolution from the XF86Config file.
Unfortunately, X uses the "vga16" driver, not "svga" or "accel". Therefore I get a color depth of 4bit, though the card could handle 16 or 24bit at 800x600. Can I force X to use the accel or the svga driver in any way? Anatol -- >If you look under www.linux.org/hardware/laptop.html for your laptop, you >will probably find the information you need.
