After building a new kernel, if you determine that it doesn't work, you can still boot to your old kernel and be OK. Just don't overwrite your old kernel with the new one. For example, I have a couple of kernels on my system, and can boot to either one easily. I have /zImage and /zImage.old. There's an entry in /etc/lilo.conf for each one. If you want to see what the lilo.conf looks like, let me know (I don't have access to it now). Building a custom kernel REALLY isn't as scary as it sounds. It's not really as cryptic as people say, you just need to know a little bit about the hardware in your system (i.e. what SCSI controller you have, if you use SCSI, and what kind of sound card you have, if you want sound support.). noah PGP public key available at http://lynx.dac.neu.edu/home/httpd/n/nmeyerha/mail.html or by 'finger -l [EMAIL PROTECTED]' -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.2 iQCVAwUBNgpf/YdCcpBjGWoFAQGudAP/dPOPLA4i6W954/Np3IAWcwNotOmz9Zm7 NytvttsME37kqzeqI551VQcT+AWKNf5XAhGEPA6Wq+HiqYCrvwjA6T28QdutetDp Z6beZNWiJu8YTplPLlTpCsFrXq8B7+FSXBDD9zv77RQYDuyvzuiWmlVsrXEA/zpQ 1oXtXcoWS5U= =dbLM -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
