Then install Linux. Debian's installation program (dbootstrap) will call cfdisk to create the partitions you need - at minimum a swap partition and a Linux partition. The installation manual is a little heavy going but invaluable:

If you have installed Win98 and Mandrake first, Debian's installation asks you if you wish to include them in the LILO boot menu.
This is the easiest way if you are starting from scratch. You can always configure an existing setup later.
I do have three hard drives that are
7.8 so they are too small to partition each.
7.8 Mb? Should be fine. Even 7.8kB could be useful.
The only thing I can think of is to have Debian'sTry http://newbiedoc.sourceforge.net/ for things to do after installation.
