things do "just plug it in and it works"
- install the ms windoze cd and follow its directions
and window, sound, printing all works
- use some linux install cd and it tooo works
- use the wrong linux installer and you get a big mess
- use the wrong hardware and you will go bonkers
( things going wrong also applies for ms ... but they have
( a list of supported stuff or requirements
- windoze have tested their stuff on more hardware, knowing the users
at NOT screwdriver literate and the manufacturers are more than
happy to have their hardware tested with microsoft cd's and apps
- thay also have just a few apps ...
( office and internet exploder )
- other apps is pre-tested by the corp that make windoze apps
- linux cd's have NOT been pre-tested on all the gazillion hardware
permutations and half-gazilions ( 30,000 - 60,000 ) open source apps,
depending on who's counting andhow you count the apps
- each of the developers or teams of developers cannot,
at this time, go to the hardware vendors and tell um
to make it do this and that and jump over hoops, whilst
the other big-bad wolf can make the hw vendors do anything they
want of the hw vendors
- the point .. use a good installer and supported hardware and the
problems does NOT exist
