I tried to install 2.6 on my desktop system, but I could not get it to run. The system crashed and re-booted ad infinitum, until I eventually booted again off a CD. So I installed 2.4. I still have occasional problems with kdm even with 2.4, so, perhaps my hardware may be the problem.
