OK, I'll admit to being dense.
No no.... not dense! I'm just making a wild-assed guess, for I'm no expert.
I was suggesting that editing /etc/modules (as root) to include the appropriate module would help. If I remember correctly, I used knoppix to discover the correct module for me to include for my old card in /etc/modules .
*Now* I'm noticing that you said 3Com 3C905C-Tx and I misread that as 3c509. So maybe I'm the dense one? ;) But after some googling, I've found that you might try adding 3c59x to your /etc/modules file.
Amazing what you can find with a bit of searching.... :)
