I'm hoping that perhaps someone here can provide some guidance/insight to
tracking down a problem I've been experiencing with offlineimap. I opened
a bug report against offlineimap which has since been reassigned to python
and referred upstream (#162369). The upstream folks believe this to be a
problem instead with either offlineimap or the C library's thread support.
Unfortunately, I'm not certain on how to proceed with isolating this
problem, and hoping that someone here can help.

A little background:

I mirror my IMAP account to my laptop using offlineimap. Originally, I
had configured offlineimap to run indefinitely resyncing every 10-30
minutes (autorefresh, started at 10 and moved eventually to 30).
Periodically, I'd find myself unable to open a new application and
eventually traced the problem back to a number of defunct processes listed
under offlineimap (listings of these are attached to the bug report). In
all cases, exiting offlineimap clears the problem, as it should.

For now, I've taken to manually running offlineimap to sync my account.
Once to pull in new mail and once after reading to sync up changes. I
suppose I could get around the problem by simply using cron to
periodically run offlineimap, but I would like to track down the overall
cause of the problem if possible.
