Hi List,

I'm still (or better: again) trying to install debian on my laptop.
3 weeks ago, I failed miserably to install it, according to someone in the
list here, because of the SiS graphics adapter. I got as far as the
graphical login manager. When I tried to log in, KDE started just until the
keyboard symbol becomes embossed. Then I'm thrown back to the login manager
again. I tried to apply a bios update, which failed. The only thing I saw
when I tried to reboot the laptop was a black screen. In the store where I
bought it a little over a year ago, they said that the SiS graphics adapter
was broken. 2 weeks (!) thereafter, they had exchanged the SiS chip and I
got the laptop back. The graphics adapter was fine, and I was able to start
kde normally. But, for some strange reasons, the MAC address of the network
card was 1:1:1:1:1:1. Linux did not give a damn, but windows xp refused to
function with this mac address (don't ask me why...). So, back to the shop
and they exchanged the sis chip once again. Today I got the laptop back: Now
the network card functions, but in linux I can't login to kde again! WTF???
Can anyone give me a good reason for this behavior? I'm really getting angry
at the people at the shop where I bought the laptop (with which I had
nothing but problems, btw).

Thanks in advance for your help,
Daniel
