How are they compiled into the kernel and as modules? Normally, drivers
are compiled as modules or into the kernel.

What is the output from 'lsmod'? Is the driver module getting loaded?
Is there anything mentioning the card in the system log? (I have a
RT8139 as well, and it works fine there.)
