Package: kdebase Version: 4:3.5.5a-1 Severity: normal After running a regular dist-upgrade, some important fonts do not work. When using these fonts spaces are displayed instead of the right symbols in the majority of cases. I have not been able to find any error messages though.
"xset q" shows: Font Path: /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc, /usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled, /usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled, /usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1, /usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi, /usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi, /home/USER/.fonts The problem affects at least the following programs: kdm_greet (says: kdm_greet[2921]: Can't open default user face) kwrite konsole I could not get kdm_greet to display anything useful by changing the fonts in the KDE control center at all. For kwrite and konsole examples of the fonts not working are: Console Charter Clean ClearlyU Fixed [Misc] Fixed [Sony] Hevetica Lucida Lucida Bright Lucida Typewriter New Century Schoolbook Terminal [Bitstreem] Terminal [DEC] courier As the fonts seem to be still there, the problem might be related to font rendering. Sometimes the first characters are shown correcly but disappear after more characters are typed. 'xlsfonts | grep sony', for example, shows: -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--0-0-100-100-c-0-iso8859-1 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--0-0-100-100-c-0-jisx0201.1976-0 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-120-100-100-c-80-iso8859-1 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-120-100-100-c-80-jisx0201.1976-0 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-150-75-75-c-80-iso8859-1 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-150-75-75-c-80-jisx0201.1976-0 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-170-100-100-c-120-iso8859-1 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-170-100-100-c-120-jisx0201.1976-0 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-230-75-75-c-120-iso8859-1 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-230-75-75-c-120-jisx0201.1976-0 -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages kdebase depends on: ii hal 0.5.8.1-1 Hardware Abstraction Layer ii kappfinder 4:3.5.5a-1 non-KDE application finder for KDE ii kate 4:3.5.5a-1 advanced text editor for KDE ii kcontrol 4:3.5.5a-1 control center for KDE ii kdebase-bin 4:3.5.5a-1 core binaries for the KDE base mod ii kdebase-data 4:3.5.5a-1 shared data files for the KDE base ii kdebase-kio-plugins 4:3.5.5a-1 core I/O slaves for KDE ii kdepasswd 4:3.5.5a-1 password changer for KDE ii kdeprint 4:3.5.5a-1 print system for KDE ii kdesktop 4:3.5.5a-1 miscellaneous binaries and files f ii kfind 4:3.5.5a-1 file-find utility for KDE ii khelpcenter 4:3.5.5a-1 help center for KDE ii kicker 4:3.5.5a-1 desktop panel for KDE ii klipper 4:3.5.5a-1 clipboard utility for KDE ii kmenuedit 4:3.5.5a-1 menu editor for KDE ii konqueror 4:3.5.5a-1 KDE's advanced file manager, web b ii konqueror-nsplugins 4:3.5.5a-1 Netscape plugin support for Konque ii konsole 4:3.5.5a-1 X terminal emulator for KDE ii kpager 4:3.5.5a-1 desktop pager for KDE ii kpersonalizer 4:3.5.5a-1 installation personalizer for KDE ii ksmserver 4:3.5.5a-1 session manager for KDE ii ksplash 4:3.5.5a-1 the KDE splash screen ii ksysguard 4:3.5.5a-1 system guard for KDE ii ktip 4:3.5.5a-1 useful tips for KDE ii kwin 4:3.5.5a-1 the KDE window manager ii libkonq4 4:3.5.5a-1 core libraries for Konqueror Versions of packages kdebase recommends: ii kdm 4:3.5.5a-1 X display manager for KDE -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
