Package: kdebase
Version: 4:3.5.5a-1
Severity: normal
After running a regular dist-upgrade, some important fonts do not
work. When using these fonts spaces are displayed instead of the
right symbols in the majority of cases. I have not been able to
find any error messages though.
"xset q" shows:
Font Path:
/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc,
/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled,
/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled,
/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1,
/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi,
/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi,
/home/USER/.fonts
The problem affects at least the following programs:
kdm_greet (says: kdm_greet[2921]: Can't open default user face)
kwrite
konsole
I could not get kdm_greet to display anything useful by changing the
fonts in the KDE control center at all.
For kwrite and konsole examples of the fonts not working are:
Console
Charter
Clean
ClearlyU
Fixed [Misc]
Fixed [Sony]
Hevetica
Lucida
Lucida Bright
Lucida Typewriter
New Century Schoolbook
Terminal [Bitstreem]
Terminal [DEC]
courier
As the fonts seem to be still there, the problem might be related to font
rendering. Sometimes the first characters are shown correcly but disappear
after more characters are typed.
'xlsfonts | grep sony', for example, shows:
