Hi,

When installing Debian 12 from scratch, and choosing KDE Plasma desktop
environment during install, by default the installer installs Wayland.
This leads to hard to track issues when not expecting this (such as lack
of support of mouse wheel as a third button). By default such choice
should be explicit.

Thanks,

Alain

yes, this has been the default upstream for quite some time and Debian followed
that.
We’re not going to revert this chance since Wayland is the way forward.

We do still provide and support the X11 session in the default install, but you
will need to switch to it a first time on the login screen.

Also you may want to give the upcoming Debian 13 Trixie a try.
It’s now in final freeze / polishing state and it’s based on KDE/Plasma 6 and
the Qt6. The stack has made major progress in wayland support since Debian 12
Bookworm so maybe that will fix your issues.

Happy hacking,
