Just because a crash happens if you scroll some document this does not make the whole package unusable. But you are right, the 3.4.6-2 in wheezy is buggy. That's why it's not supported (but because of other maintainers' actions blocking it 3.5.x didn't yet migrate). But 3.5.x is to be used, try with that one. 3.4.6 will not get *any* attention anymore.
