Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.0.99+1.1rc3-1
Severity: minor

The OpenOffice 1.1 package is using Microsoft Office format for the
default format to save the documents. The merge of the Ximian patches is
a good thing, but I think this "feature" is a serious error.

Debian and Debian Developers should take care of the open and free (as
in freedom) standards and promote it over the propietary document
formats.

The default document formats must be the OpenOffice file format, XML
gzipped files that all the world can read and convert.

Please, this bug I sent have severity minor, but I think this issue is a
urgent thing.

I just tried it out:

export COMPATIBLE=3D<whatever>[1] enables the save as M$ formats. Just
comment the entry in openoffice.conf and you are fine..

Closing this bug again.

[1] <whatever> includes 0, this is why the entry is commented in the
"normal" openoffice.conf, not set as COMPATIBLE=3D0....
