In its default configuration, OpenOffice.org Writer uses the DOC (Micro$oft Word) format to save a newly created document. I think this is a bug because it could cause certain loss of the document design and creates incompatibility with other word-processing programs that are able to read the open-defined openoffice native format, and are not able to read the closed M$ Word format. I know that there is an option in Options Menu that allows to change this option, but I think that the default instalation should use the native openoffice format. If a user wants to use the DOC format and face the problems named above, it's ok, but the default instalation shouldn't expose the user to these problems. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux rojo 2.4.21.240703 #1 lun sep 15 20:42:04 CEST 2003 i686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Versions of packages openoffice.org depends on: ii dictionaries-common 0.15.3 Common utilities for spelling dict ii openoffice.org-bin 1.0.99+1.1rc3-1 OpenOffice.org office suite binary ii openoffice.org-debian-fi 1.0.99+1.1rc3-2 Debian specific parts of OpenOffic ii openoffice.org-l10n-es [ 1.0.99+1.1rc3-1 Spanish language package for openo -- no debconf information --------------------------------------- Received: (at 212157-done) by bugs.debian.org; 11 Oct 2003 10:13:24 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Oct 11 05:13:12 2003 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from stan.ping.de [62.72.95.4] by master.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1A8GkH-0007Do-00; Sat, 11 Oct 2003 05:13:09 -0500 Received: from rene by stan.ping.de with local (Exim 3.35 #1 (Debian)) id 1A8GkG-0006WW-00 for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Sat, 11 Oct 2003 12:13:08 +0200 X-IMAP-Sender: rene Date: Sat, 11 Oct 2003 12:11:41 +0200 X-OfflineIMAP-2036674200-52656d6f7465-494e424f582e4f7574626f78: 1065867110-0869760538802 From: Rene Engelhard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Bug#212157: Default file format bug still there Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="C+ts3FVlLX8+P6JN" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> X-Operating-System: Debian GNU/Linux X-GnuPG-Key: $ finger [EMAIL PROTECTED] User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.4i Sender: Rene Engelhard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-5.7 required=4.0 tests=EMAIL_ATTRIBUTION,QUOTED_EMAIL_TEXT version=2.53-bugs.debian.org_2003_10_09 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.53-bugs.debian.org_2003_10_09 (1.174.2.15-2003-03-30-exp) --C+ts3FVlLX8+P6JN Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi, Aigars Mahinovs wrote: > I have OpenOffice.org 1.1.0-1 from sid now. I just tried it out: export COMPATIBLE=3D<whatever>[1] enables the save as M$ formats. Just comment the entry in openoffice.conf and you are fine.. Closing this bug again.
