Version: 1.0.99+1.1rc3-1
Severity: normal

Hello. In its default configuration, OpenOffice.org Writer uses the DOC
(Micro$oft Word) format to save a newly created document. I think this
is a bug because it could cause certain loss of the document design and creates
incompatibility with other word-processing programs that are
able to read the open-defined openoffice native format, and are not able
to read the closed M$ Word format.

I know that there is an option in Options Menu that allows to change
this option, but I think that the default instalation should use the
native openoffice format. If a user wants to use the DOC format and face
the problems named above, it's ok, but the default instalation shouldn't
expose the user to these problems.

I just tried it out:

export COMPATIBLE=3D<whatever>[1] enables the save as M$ formats. Just
comment the entry in openoffice.conf and you are fine..

Closing this bug again.

[1] <whatever> includes 0, this is why the entry is commented in the
"normal" openoffice.conf, not set as COMPATIBLE=3D0....
