I had a similar issue with KMail 6.6.1 (25.12.1) today. In my case I found that when I went into the configuration dialog of the SMTP transport, switched to the second tab with advanced configuration and clicked on auto-detect configuration again, that it changed the SMTP port to 587. I think it was 465 before. Then sending of the mail worked. Not sure whether the provider changed the port – I was not notified, so I doubt it – or whether KMail / Akonadi SMTP transport changed behavior.
