In supporting both gcc Go and golang Go

Basic question that is probably obvious to everyone: what is the reason
for the desire to support gcc Go? When talking to some Go upstream
projects (especially security-related) they frown when they hear about
use of gccgo.

gccgo was at least used for bootstrapping golang to new architectures, so used by the golang project itself. It's also used by some packages in Debian.
