Well, althought the emacs-snapshot is provides Emacs version 21.x, I suspect some modes will have compatibility problems, so better be conservative like Auctex. If you encounter problems with other modes, please report them. Since emacs-snapshot is meant to be the base of the next stable release, the sooner we fix, the better.
