I originally asked that there be a D option which would do
diff -u $x $x.dpkg-dist | ${PAGER:-more}
and was told that that was what the Z option was for.
Unfortunately, I don't think human factors was much considered
in this aspect of dpkg's design...
[Personally, I think the capability to display a prepared message with
an option to display a diff with a simple keystroke is the right way to
go.]
