I strongly disagree. g++2.8/egcs + libstdc++2.8 is the first version of the GNU C++ development environment that comes close to supporting ANSI C++; previous version lacked or at best had only partial support for modern C++ constructs like templates, exception handling, standard template library (see http://egcs.cygnus.com/c++features.html).
