FWIW recent GNOME desktops in unstable using gnome-mount for doing the mounting stuff, already have this kind of functionality. Whenever you unmount a removable device, gnome-mount will show you a message via notification-daemon, when it is safe to unplug the device. I'm not sure if XFCE in Debian already uses gnome-mount, though. Cheers, Michael -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
