Hi, Whether an account created by a package should be deleted or not has been discussed a million times. But it looks like the results of these discussions were never written down.
I have created a wiki page, http://wiki.debian.org/AccountHandlingInMaintainerScripts which tries to neutrally summarize my knowledge about what to do with system accounts needed by packages. Of course, a big part of the debate is whether to remove accounts in postinst or not, and whether to do it during removal or during purge. This is the actually most important part of discussion IMO since I think it should be avoided to add complexity to maintainer scripts. I'd like to solicit your opinions to this wiki page and would appreciate if we could have the discussion here and have me incorporate the changes into the wiki page.
