There are more alternatives: http://rzip.samba.org/ ...In the following I show the compression ratios of the large-corpus for rzip 2.0, gzip 1.3.5 and bzip2 1.0.2 on my Debian Linux laptop. In all cases the programs were run with their maximum compresion options.
