due to shadow.
Sorry for my ignorance - you are perfectly all right. I verified this by
untaring /var/cache/pbuilder/base.tgz, copying a clean /etc/pam.d/su* from
my running system into it and rebuilded the tarball again. Then I was
able to use pdebuild cleanly.
