I am planning to package libMesh [1], a C++ library for parallel finite element calculations using MPI, PETSc and (Par)Metis (and possibly hypre via PETSc). It is actively developed at the University of Texas at Austin and Hamburg University of Technology, and is copyrighted by the authors at those institutions and licensed under the LGPL (2.1). [1] http://libmesh.sourceforge.net/ Because ParMetis (and hypre) is non-free, this will need to go into contrib.
